About IB

At Høje-Taastrup Gymnasium, we are preparing to open the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) and pre-IB. We aim to welcome our first IB DP and pre-IB students in August 2027.

What is the IB Diploma Programme about?

The IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) is a two-year pre-university programme. It is academically challenging and recognised by universities in Denmark and around the world.

The IB DP offers a broad, balanced and connected curriculum. As an IB student, you study six subjects alongside the IB core: CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service), TOK (Theory of Knowledge) and the Extended Essay (EE).

The IB DP is an alternative to the Danish STX, and the language of instruction is English.

Why choose the IB DP?

• You want to be challenged academically.
• You have a good command of English and want to improve it.
• You want to learn about the world around you.
• You enjoy a diverse and international learning environment.

Who can apply for the IB DP

The IB DP is designed for students aged 16–19. Students from a wide range of educational backgrounds can apply, for example:

  • International students (IB MYP, IGCSE, or equivalent)
  • Students from the Danish system who have completed 1.g (STX, HHX, HTX) or pre-IB
  • Students with other educational backgrounds

If you are unsure whether you are eligible, please contact us.

Pre-IB

The IB Diploma Programme corresponds to 2.g and 3.g in the Danish gymnasium system. This means you must complete either 1.g (STX/HHX/HTX) or a pre-IB before starting the IB DP.

The pre-IB is taught in English and broadly follows the Danish 1.g curriculum. After completing pre-IB, you can choose to continue into the IB DP or transfer to a Danish 2.g programme.

Hoeje-Taastrup Gymnasium is a candidate school* for the Diploma Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students.

* Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
